Saw this driving down the road, pulled over and had my wife take a pic. I gotta get the fuck out this place. (Yes, it is an official Duck Dynasty 'pre-fabricated home.')

Nothing wrong with Prefabs, Modulars or "trailers".
The DD thing is getting a bit over played though.

No there isn't anything wrong with trailers. It put's a lot of families in homes. What I hate is the predatory marketing and lending that put's people in trailers that they end up paying for fives times over. Marketing like this is geared towards the more...uh....(how does one say 'uneducated' nicely?)

I am proud to say that I have never seen a Duck Dynasty episode.

Every time I see a DD cardboard cutout in Wally World, I've wanted to get a red sharpie and grammar nazi the hell out of the speech bubble. They say "Now thats some low prices. Jack!" with Si and it's horrible.

There have been some trying to recruit the "smart one" for a congressional run. I haven't been following the story, so I don't know if he's ruled it out, but part of the payoff for the rest of us could be that they'll have to limit some of their licensing. Between it and the father bad-mouthing the network, their cultural saturation could be coming to an end.

The DD part is the only thing wrong I see with this picture.

You and me both.

Saw some stuff for them at a Halloween store and was wondering what the hell was going on.

Several years ago, my wife wanted to buy a nice, cheap futon to use as an extra bed and on her list was a Martha Stewart brand from Kmart, which was the one we bought.

Our reasoning was that Ms Stewart made big show out of putting her name only on quality products. I don't know how true that may actually be because the kids ended-up breaking the wooden frame beyond repair in like six years, but unlike Donald Trump and the guys from Duck Dynasty, it's the picture she painted. Trump and DD will put their name on pretty much everything, as long as the check clears.

6 years is not too bad if you got a good price. Celebrities stuff that is sold in K-mart usually have some good quality unlike Walmart stuff.

My problem with Trump, DD, and other endorsements like them is that they don't care if their name is attached to quality. Like you said "as long as the check clears", they don't care. I have nothing against them personally. I am only against their branding practices.

To be fair, it was probably a pine frame. And kids.

Not that metal would have done you any better. We learned the hard way with 3 kids and multiple futon/bunk bed combos. Kids will wreck just about everything.

Yeah, she wanted an inexpensive "mission style" wooden frame and we got it when my son was a year or two and my daughter was seven or eight, so it didn't have much of a chance.

Of course, if it had Sy's picture on the box instead of Martha Stewart's, I don't know that it would have got much past the parking lot. Though to be fair, if you were to say "mission style" to him, a futon is probably not what he'd think.

Ha! Mission in mass market means 3 spindles on the sides, centered.

At that stage in the kid game, there's no win. It's over as soon as your cash is gone. Jumping, split rails, crayons, markers, screwdrivers, cheeto stains, something's going to eff it up.

My wife's assistant and her husband watch it and constantly want to discuss the episodes with us. I just know that they supposedly have hot significant others and make duck calls. I'd rather watch Moonshiners if I were going to watch rednecks run around doing stupid crap.

That's why we were shopping at Kmart.

Now that they're a little older, we replaced it with a slightly nicer, Mission-style futon because it matches the decor. Though to be safe, we chose one with a different bit than the part that broke, got fixed and broke again. This one was a web-order and so far our only complaint is that it doesn't have a little lip to hold the mattress in place, but that hasn't been a big deal and maybe if we bought a new mattress, it would slip less.

When I was in college, I sold futons for a local place in Boston*. That was the biggest complaint; finding something to hold it in place. Sadly, only the metal futons came with a little handle that held that mattress upright. You can try DIY velcro grips to attach to the wood and futon bottom.

For our youngest, we (frankly) gave up. He's now 14, a snack addict and XBox junkie and we just keep his door closed when company comes over.

*Foam core, all cotton, it doesn't matter. They all slide at some point, and consistent body pressure leaves dents. Rotating the mattress and using egg shell foam padding helps somewhat.

Rednecks?
Not long ago I managed a largeish apartment "community" that was much worse.
$950 to $1150 or more for an apartment?

I thought DD was cute when I saw it. Now I want to hit myself in the face with a hammer every time I go to Walmart. DD branded shit is everywhere here in Kentucky. Is it just a southern obsession, or a nationwide one?

I actually like mobile homes, but his one looks drab and boring. There are many prefab brands out there with more flair yet affordable—even without going to the artisan crafty and super-expensive tiny houses.

From my understanding it is nationwide, but very popular in the south.
